The Mail on Sunday questions whether some health drinks are "an illusion".

Pleasingly, though, Caroline notes that there's decent evidence for the benefits of Sharpen up's herbal ingredients yerba maté, guarana, ginseng and goji.

She's concerned about possible adverse effects of goji - though, with goji berries in everything from cereals to smoothies these days, and recently given the safety nod by the EU, this is a bit of an old debate.

She's right, however to point out that it's wise to avoid Chinese medicinal herbs if you are pregnant - we always say, best to consult your doctor to be on the safe side.

So no shock-horror Mail sensation.
